SA United Announces Additions to Coaching Staff.

Wednesday 1/25/2017

Director of Coaching, Martin Smith, is delighted to announce new additions to our coaching staff. Ben Bethencourt, Quar Willis, Juan Juarez, Miguel Vidal and Brady Braughman join our already professional and excellent coaching team.

Ben Bethencourt joins us from Colorado Rapids where he was coaching in the Rapids Academy, working with the U13 and U16 boys. Ben has plenty of experience, having also spent time as a Director of Coaching and Player Development at Denver Mambas Football Club. Ben will now focus his attention on our 99B RIASA team having been appointed as Head Coach and we are extremely excited to see the players continue their development under his guidance. Ben holds his USSF ‘C’ License.

Quar Willis is an exciting addition to our team, joining us from the FC Dallas Alamo Area where he was Academy Director. Quar has been a long-time servant in our soccer community and knows all about our club, our vision and the direction we want to go. A perfect fit for our club, Quar will be working with our 06G Gold this spring season. Quar holds his USSF National Youth License and USSF ‘C’ License.

With the continued growth of our successful U8-U10 Academy Program, the need for quality coaches to teach our young players continues to rise. Therefore, we are delighted that Juan Juarez has joined our quality Academy coaching pool. Juan has previous experience working with young players, having been a part of a program specifically designed for players in San Diego aged 5-14. As part of the military, Juan has also had the opportunity to work with players in Germany, a valuable experience learning about other cultures. Juan holds his USSF ‘D’ license and will be working with our 08B Spurs this season.

Finally, we welcome Miguel Vidal and Brady Braughman to our Academy coaching slate. Brady is a former player of ours and therefore knows all about our philosophies on player development. Miguel joins us from Florida where he was Head Coach at Lakeland High School. Both Brady and Miguel have played the game at a good level and we look forward to them passing on their knowledge to our young players.
