SA United Joins the USC

We are delighted to announce that we have joined the United Soccer Club's (USC) League. The USC was formed in the fall of 2015 and is a competitive platform, created with input from Directors of Coaching at many of the top clubs in the state.

For the fall 2016 season, SA United will be entering our 04 and 03 Boys and Girls teams and will be joining the newly created West Division. As well as being part of an organization where clubs lead the decision-making on operations, competition format and developmental programming, there are many other benefits to our club, players and teams. Being a member of US Club Soccer will provide us with even more pathways including the Player Development (PDP) event and id2 Program scouting and other initiatives.

Why Join the USC?
Director of Coaching, Martin Smith, had this to say about joining the USC “We are delighted to be able to join the USC West Division for the new fall 2016/spring 2017 season. Over recent weeks it has become apparent that we have like minded ideas with other clubs in our area about developing our players and these fit with the USC model and philosophy. SA United is excited to have the opportunity to  join the West Division and to also work with the other member clubs. A major factor is that the league is run by the clubs Directors of Coaching and Technical staff meaning that decisions made are geared to improving soccer in our communities. We look forward to being able to provide our players with another platform that offers quality competition, more pathways for player and team development and to be part of a league that creates a positive game day environment. For me, another plus was that games can be scheduled back to back allowing our Directors to spend more time watching games, helping our players and providing feedback to our coaching staff”.

Being a part of US Club Soccer will also allow our players to participate in developmental programs such as the PDP and id2 program. The USC has also dedicated time and money to coaching education allowing member clubs to send staff to seminars and coaching courses. The most recent course was a La Liga Formation Methodology course introducing La Liga principles. This was held in College Station and attended by over 100 coaches from the USC member clubs.

Who will be entered into the league?
The teams entering into the league will be our 04 (U13) and 03 (U14) boys and girls first and second teams. We will be forming these teams at our upcoming tryouts on May 31st, June 1st and June 2nd. If you would like to tryout for our 04 and 03 USC teams, you can register here.

Who will be the coaching staff for the USC teams?
The coaching staff for the 04 and 03 boys and girls USC teams are as follows:

  • 04 Boys Black - Noel Hatherall, U8-U13 Boys and Girls Director of Player Development

  • 04 Boys Gold - Edwin Welles

  • 04 Girls Black - Martin Smith, Director of Coaching

  • 04 Girls Gold - Laurence O’Toole

  • 03 Boys RIASA - Jozsef Tereyni

  • 03 Boys Black - Ivan Ferreris

  • 03 Girls Black - Brandon Rodriguez

  • 03 Girls Gold - Ben Gerdts

How is the league structured?
The West Division will be made up of 2-3 brackets. Teams are placed in the brackets by the Directors of Coaching to ensure brackets are competitive with similar level teams competing against each other. The West Division will be below the Champions League (league with Top teams from the West and East). There will be promotion and relegation in each of the brackets allowing teams to move up and down based on their standings. For example, if a team wins Bracket B, they will be promoted to Bracket A. If a team wins Bracket A, they will have an opportunity to promote into the Champions League.

Where will home games be played?
All USC home games will be played at our home complex the GVTC Communications Sportsplex, 29064 Bulverde Road, San Antonio, Texas 78260

Will we have to travel far for away games?
The USC West Division is made up of clubs in San Antonio and Austin. The furthest we will travel will be Austin.

How many games will we play a season?
The league is a year round model running from August to May. We expect to play around 14-18 games a season, although this may change dependent on the makeup of the USC league brackets.
